Dodgeville's girls basketball team outscored Lancaster 36-14 in the second half and went on for a 54-43 win in SWC play Friday night.
The Lady Arrows led 29-18 at halftime thanks to a 20-8 bulge in the second quarter, one when they hit a trio of three pointers and senior Katrina Polkinghorn connected for six of her team-high 14 points.
The Dodgers came alive in the second half as Taylor Stanek scored 15 of her game-high 22 points and fellow sophomore Samantha Crowley connected for 16 of her 18.
The Dodgers led 10-9 after the opening quarter and then didn't lead again until the 6:45 mark of the fourth frame on a Crowley lay-in to make the score 36-34. They had tied it at the 7:18 mark when Stanek connected on two free throws. From there on out they never relinquished the lead.
For Lancaster, double figure scoring also came from sophomore Sydney Wagner with 11 points, including three three pointers and junior Jena Vesperman adding 10.
"Lancaster is a well coached team and are fundamentally sound," said Dodgeville coach Josh Busch. "We weren't ready to play in the first half, but I was confident that if we played like we're capable of playing in the second half we'd be okay."
He said his team played a more disciplined offense in the second half as well as a more aggressive defense.
"Our press was much more effective in the second half. We started making shots so we were able to set up our press," the coach added.
"Obviously Taylor's been consistent as our scorer. Tonight other people stepped up in the first half when she wasn't knocking down her shots," Busch said. "In the second half Taylor and Sam both came out determined and both did a nice job scoring and hustling on defense."
