Pointers put it together to beat Braves

Coaches always have that question on their mind.
"Do they really get what we are trying to teach?"
Often the answer is yes.
Once in awhile it is a resounding yes.
Like what Mineral Point boys basketball coach Dan Burreson saw Friday when the Pointers were facing Belmont in a non-conference game over the holidays.
Burreson had inserted Brandon Lindholm, a 6-2 senior, into the game. Lindholm sees spot action and going into Friday's game he had scored one point for the season.
He is not being counted on to score points but rather to get in a game, work hard and get some time on the court.
Friday his contributions included a move that brought Burreson and the Pointer bench to their feet.
"They will be talking about that move the rest of the year," Burreson said.
Burreson has been a big supporter of defense creating offense and the reserve senior showed he bought into this in a big way.
"He did a great job defensively," Burreson said about Lindholm. "On one occasion he got into the passing lane, got a pick, made a killer crossover move to get by a defender and finished at the rim."
That was two points for the Pointer big man and no doubt a career highlight for player, team and coach.
Lindholm was one of many who helped the Pointers ease to the 68-38 win. In fact, Burreson saw a lot of contributions that made him happy.
"I thought everybody contributed tonight," Burreson said. "It was nice to get everyone a lot of playing time. We are sharing the ball well and working hard on the defensive end."
The defense limited the Braves to five points the first quarter as the Pointers got out ahead 18-5. They never looked back as 11 of the players who got into the game went on to score.
Trevor Wendhausen drilled a trio of three pointers and ended the night with 21 points.
Sy Staver and Cory Schultz both added double figures to the Pointer attack with 16 and 10.
It was a big time performance for Schultz, Mineral Point's starting post.
"Cory Schultz battled hard on the boards tonight and finished well at the rim," Burreson said. "He is starting to play really well."
Schultz also had nine rebounds, making him one short of a double double.
Burreson expects his talented guards to contribute offensively and Friday they did not disappoint.
"Sy Staver and Trevor Wend-hausen continue to be our catalysts on the offensive end," Burreson said. "Not only are they getting their own shots, but they are creating opportunities for others."
The Pointer coach said others are contributing to the team's success.
"Jacob Heimsoth seems to make something positive happen every time he steps foot on the floor," Burreson said. "Andrew James and Levi Zimmerman gave us quality minutes off of the bench and both got into the scoring column tonight."
And the list goes on.
"Blake Weier worked hard on the defensive end," Burreson continued. "Our guards did a nice job pressuring their guards all night."
The Pointers did have one player with a double double as Wendhausen grabbed 10 rebounds to go with his 21 points.
Burreson also pointed out that Alec Schmitz and Staver each had five assists.
