Mineral Point's Robby Chubb makes it 50 titles in 50 years
He had the chance to do it last year at the Kohl Center in the 182 lb. division, but SWAL conference foe Blake Welu of Iowa-Grant denied him in the state finals.
This year he was back at 195 lb, up from his regular 182 lbs. he had competed at most of the season, and he did it convincingly with a 3:15 pin over Ladysmith's Markus Armstrong in front of a packed house at the Kohl Center. He had the chance to do it last year at the Kohl Center in the 182 lb. division, but SWAL conference for Blake Welu of Iowa-Grant denied him in the state finals.

"The coaches have invested so much time in me, the community was following me every step of the way. I wanted to do it for them," Chubb said. "Every day I woke up and I thought I'm getting it done."
His closest match, as many do at the state tournament, came in the semifinals when he won 4-0 over Martin Luther's Austin Hoeg.
Chubb was joined at state by three teammates - 113 lb. Reid Suddeth, 152 lb. Tucker Pickel and 285 lb. Brian Steffes - all dropping matches in the Thursday night round and could not compete any more.
"I thought Robby just had an outstanding tournament," said Pointer coach Scott Schmitz. "He dominated everyone and never got scored upon. He was in the right position all the time and position is something we stressed to him. Robby's work ethic and what he did over the summer really showed. If anyone deserved a championship it was him. And being the 50th one will be remembered a long time. It couldn't have gone to a more deserving kid."
"The other three kids wrestled hard and gave it their all, they just came up short," the coach added. "Brian and Tucker are both seniors and making it to state is a lifetime dream for a lot of kids. They both just came up short in their first match. They are real team leaders."
"Reid was making his second trip to state. If he would've come out of sectionals a champion I think he would've been sitting better in his bracket. But, he's got to win that first match, "Schmitz said. "I felt he wrestled hard, but not quite good enough to get into the second day. He basically needs to work on getting physically stronger."
"It was a good weekend. There were seven champions out of our conference and nine out of our sectional. We finished the year 21-4 and beat three Division 1 teams that are in the championships. We had a great year," Schmitz concluded.
