Dodgers clear first hurdle
That's what the Dodgeville girls figured going into their Division 3 tournament opener against Viroqua Tuesday night.
Taylor Stanek hit 12 points in the first quarter, incuding a pair of threes, to help propel her team to a 20-2 lead.
She wasn't done either as she finished the night with 23 points and her team coasted to a 60-28 win.
"We started the game with very good energy," said Dodger coach Josh Busch. "We were able to knock down some jumpers right away. Then we were able to get into our press and the girls did a nice job turning turnovers into offense."
The Dodgers eased up a bit in the second frame, but still led 27-10 at the intermission.
"In the second quarter we let down a little and we were careless with the ball some. The first tournament game can be tough. Viroqua threw a lot of defensive looks at us, going from man to zone and back again, but we did a pretty good job adjusting."
Stanek was the lone Dodger to hit in double figures, but seven otherplayers scored and all 14 players got on the floor.
Viroqua junior Faith Lampman led her team's offense with eight points.
The Dodgers host Westfield Friday night in a regional semifinal contest. Westfield topped Mauston 57-48 Tuesday night.
