Big fourth boosts Dodger girls
The Dodgers jumped out to a quick 18-7 lead as Taylor Stanek and Samantha Crowley hit six and five points with Brooke Lee adding four and Courtney Cushman two.
River Valley came right back in the second frame with a 13-9 edge to make the score at halftime just 27-20.
They spread the points around to five players in that frame with freshman Kylie Hoffman hitting four, Alyssa Mueller and Morgan Johnson three each, Molly DuCharme a bucket and Ally Schlutter a free throw.
The third quarter saw the two teams battle to a 14-14 standoff, but then came the Dodgers big surge.
Stanek hit 9 of her game-high 18 points in the fourth with Megan Zoet adding four and Cushman and Lee two each.
River Valley's Taylor Genthe scored six points in the fourth, accounting for all the points her team mustered in that frame.
Johnson hit 10 points for the game for the Lady Blackhawks while Crowley popped in 12 for the Dodgers with Lee adding 10.
The Dodgers shot 31% from the field, both two and three point land, on the night while the Blackhawks shot 46% from two point range and 16% from beyond the arc.
Dodgeville pulled down 35 rebounds, 20 defensive and 15 offensive.
RV came up with 23 boards with Mueller garnering 10. She also blocked four shots.
Dodgeville coach Josh Busch talked about the win saying, "We didn't shoot the ball very well and to get that kind of victory when we didn't shows that we've come a long ways defensively to finish with a win. We had a lot of good scoring chances, but we didn't finish very well tonight. We missed a lot of layups and easy shots."
"I thought we had good energy early and got up 15 points or so and then seemed to coast. Tonight we found the energy again and brought things back," he concluded.
The Dodgers are 5-3 in conference action and trail SWC co-leading Platteville and Prairie du Chien by two games. They travel to Lancaster Thursday night and to Mineral Point on Monday for a non-conference battle. They finish conference play the following Thursday when they host Prairie.
"The biggest factor for us was the number of shots Dodgeville took, " said River Valley coach Eric Briehl. "While they only shot 31% they put up 71 shots. This can be attributed to our poor rebounding, allowing 15 offensive boards. We also hit a couple of 2-3 minute stretches where we again made poor decisions."
River Valley is 0-9 in the SWC.
