Panthers find way in ot win over Redbirds

Iowa-Grant's boys basketball team and Darlington battled through four quarters then needed an extra period to decide the outcome of Friday's SWAL match-up.
The Panthers had to survive the hot hand that sophomore Cole McDonald was dealing---he had 26 points--12 each half and two in overtime--and get their big men involved.
They were able to accomplish a little of both. And when they did, they found a way to get past the Redbirds 62-56.
McDonald scored just two of Darlington's seven points in overtime while the Panthers were putting up 13. Iowa-Grant got two baskets from 6-9 Logan Leverton, one from 6-7 Colin Conner and seven free throws from brothers TJ and Isaac Anderson. Isaac put in four of eight and TJ three of six.
Isaac Anderson led the Panthers in scoring with 16 points and drilled four three pointers. Leverton added 13 and picked off five rebounds while Conner scored 11 and hauled in seven boards. Tony Deutsch also had five rebounds.
Deutsch had a solid floor game with three assists and two steals. He also scored two points.
TJ Anderson added three assists and two steals.
"Our big guys were solid down the stretch," Iowa-Grant coach Toby Tripalin said. "Over the past five games Colin Conner has been playing the best basketball of his life and is becoming a force."
The freshman Isaac Anderson played a huge role in the comeback and the win.
"He was big for us," Tripalin said. "He hit some big shots down the stretch."
Another clutch performance late in the game came from TJ Anderson.
"I thought the way TJ controlled things and kept us positive down the stretch was another key," Tripalin said.
Tripalin thought team defense played a big part in the win.
"McDonald torched us all night long and we didn't shoot well for three quarters," Tripalin said. "We competed very hard defensively the second half which let us creep back into the game."
