Pointers, I-G/H matmen compete at Dells
Neeither team was able to win a match out of the five they wrestled in their pools.
The Pointers competed in the Black Pool.
They lost to Wausau West 48-20, to Amery 45-24, to West Salem/Bangor 45-32, to Spring Valley/Elmwood 49-13 and to Sparta 32-28.
Individual wins and losses by weights were; 106-Marcus Shannon 0-1, 113-Grant Rose 0-5, 126-Frank Baker 3-2, 132-Reid Suddeth 1-3, 132/38-Jake Riley 2-2, 138/45-Brandon Forseth 3-2, 145/52-Ross Siegenthaler 3-2, 152/60-Scotty Pittz 5-0, 182-Kyle Juedes 1-4, 195-Nate Cody 3-2, 220-Brenyn Schmit 5-0.
"This was like "The Perfect Storm" today, but in a bad way," said Pointer coach Scott Schmitz. "One young man did't make weight and another, after the first match, may've fractured his wrist - so we had to forfeit the rest of the way out."
"I felt the kids wrestled really hard and that's all you can ask of them. When you forfeit 30 points each match, it's tough hill to climb. The freshmen got a real taste of their first real strong varsity tournament and they should learn from that.
"Scotty Pittz went 5-0 wrestling up two weights. Brenyn Schmit was 5-0 at his normal weight. Ross Siengnthaler went up two weights and Brandon Forseth went up one. Nate Cody went up too.
"I told them that if they were able to compete one or two weight classes up they should be able to compete at their regular weight. That's where everybody should be at Badger State.
"We have to work hard and prepare for Belleville Thursday night. We had six champs in a JV tournament Saturday and maybe we can use some of them in matches."
Scores for I-G/H matches were: Benilde St Margaret 48-21, New Richmond 49-27, Oshkosh North 45-31, DeForest 45-35, Boyceville 42-28.
Individuals were: 106/13-Shania Sarbacker 4-1, 106/13-JordanJenks 1-4, 120/26-Trenton Arndt 0-5, 132-Mikkel Wind 4-1, 138-McClain Marshall 0-5, 145-Luke Nowak 3-2, 160/70-Brian Halverson 4-1, 195-Cody Rider 4-1, 220-Brent Rider 1-2, 220/85-Kyle Soderstrom 4-1.
"On Saturday, we went 0-5 giving up 4 forfiets most of the day," said I-G/H coach Ryan Allen. "Most of the guys that we did have in the line up wrestled pretty well, however."
He talked baout some individuals saying, "Luke lost to a couple of tough kids. One from Minn and one from New Richmond, but I thought he wrestled hard throughout the matches. He just needs to be ready to go mentally for every single match no matter who he's wrestling.
Shania looked very good Sat going 4-1 as she really got her offense going on her feet.
"Jordan had a tough day losing several matches by a point and bumping up a weight to fill a hole. Hopefully Jordan can stay focused and start winning matches by pushing the pace a little more and getting after it.
"Trenton, MacClain, and Brent all first time varsity guys, were just out matched most of the day and hopefully they realize that if they keep working they can get to that level too.
"Mikkel, Brian, Cody, and Kyle all went 4-1 on the day wrestled very well and hopefully use this momentum heading into next week."
