Pointer girls gain first win topping Fennimore

The Pointer girls basketball team picked up its first win of the 2013-14 campaign and did it in convincing fashion Thursday night.
A balanced attack, a strong second quarter, and increased intensity throughout the game helped propel the Pointers to a 61-47 SWAL victory at Fennimore.
The loss was just the second for the Golden Eagles on the season.
"I felt we were much more aggressive offensively," said Pointer coach Mitch Wainwright. "Also, on the defensive end, we did a good job limiting the number of shots Fennimore took. Natalie Chubb and Jessica Schutlz both did a great job on the boards."
"Jessica had a great game tonight, partly because Fennimore got in foul trouble and they had no size to match up with her on the inside. She also helped the team with several assists."
"Clara Chambers was a real threat for us tonight, too, and helped balance Jessica's inside presence with a great outside shot."
"Sydney Staver had an excellent game. She is getting more comfortable all the time. She played tonight how I've been waiting for her to play all year," concluded the coach.
Alexi Needham led all scorers with 27 points, but she was the only Eagle in double digits.
Point had a balanced attack with three players scoring ten or more points each--Schultz tallied 20, Chambers added 17, and Staver chipped in 13.
The Pointers host Riverdale Friday night. The Chieftains are riding a four game winning streak.
