Iowa-Grant girls tame Wildcats
The Panthers rode a 22-14 advantage in the second quarter to give them thier 11-point advantage at the half. They stretched that to 13 several times in the third frame, but the Wildcats kept coming back. They got to within six down the stretch with Michelle Budden hitting six of her game-high 14 points in that frame.
Kylie Moneypenny went 1x2 from the free throw line and Taylor Jackson sank two tosses to keep the lead at six at the end.
In the first half, I-G's Jackson hit nine of her team-high13 points and fellow junior Jordyn Grimm added six of her eight. In all, seven Panthers reached the scoring column
"We've been having seven or eight players score each night, so we've had some pretty good balance," said Iowa-Grant coach Craig Jenkins.
"Taylor has been making very smart decisions at point," he added. "She's becoming more and more confident with the ball each game."
"Im happy with our defense and we had strong rebounding - up until the fourth quarter," the coach said.
The Panthers travel to Darlington Friday night for another SWAL test.
"They are pretty young," Jenkins pointed out.
The Panthers, however, don't have a senior on their squad.
