Dodger boys start fast, overpower Prairie du Chien

A 10-0 start to a game is pretty good. Add on a 22-4 end to the first quarter and that too is pretty good. Finish with a 42-33 second half and everybody getting playing time, that is also pretty good.
That was the way the Dodgeville boys basketball game went with visiting Prairie du Chien in the two team's initial SWC test Thursday night and the Dodgers prevailing 64-37.
The Dodgers jumped out to their 10-0 lead on some good shooting by senior post player Jason Gullickson, who had two quick buckets, one a steal and drive the length of the floor for a lay-in to his credit. Senior Austin Larson and freshman Trent Jones both nailed three pointers in that run.
They enjoyed a 13-2 lead before being up 22-4 at the close of quarter one.
The lead stretched to 39-16 by halftime and 56-24 by the close of three frames.
With everyone who was available playing and quite a few minutes for most of them in every quarter, "it was a good team win and a huge conference win", said Dodgeville coach Ryan Bohnsack. "Everyone contributed with some aspect of what we were trying to do. They did everything defensively that we wanted. We did some things tonight that we need to do every night."
Offensively, Larson led the Dodgers with 15 points with fellow senior Nate Hottmann adding 11. Gullickson scored eight in the first quarter and finished with nine points.
Matt Clerkin led in rebounding with seven with Larson picking off five.
Levi Nagel had six assists and Gullickson came up with four steals.
"It was a good game to get everyone some good minutes," Bohnsack added. "It should be a good confidence booster for everyone. We found the tandem of Gullickson and Clerkin will be good for us inside. It was our transition game along with our shooting that got us going. Austin and Nate showed their leadership tonight."
