Along The Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Sunday was my first week (of two) of taking "Photos with Santa" at the Dodgeville Senior Center. Santa and I arrived at about the same time and there were youngsters waiting to see him. It was a pretty good day and Santa heard a lot of lists from the youngsters that he will need to fulfill come Christmas Day. The seniors who manned the punch, coffee and cookies had a lot of fun with the youngsters, hearing some of the stories they were telling. The snow arrived just in time for Santa and his reindeer to land on the rooftop of the building with Santa coming in the front door - since there isn't any chimney for him to come down!

The snow caused several slide off accidents Saturday afternoon. That first real snowfall always catches some drivers who don't realize just how slippery it can get on the roadways.

There was a great turnout (especially early) for the Breakfast with Santa on Saturday. The Dodgeville Area Women's Club always does a great job with not only the breakfast, but with the organization of the event. Santa and Mrs. Claus were both a hit and a lot of youngsters had their photo taken with them. The activity area found a bunch of youngsters doing some very creative projects. There was a good group of volunteers, but more were needed, so if anyone wants to help next year!

After the "breakfast" I ventured out to Hill's Pub to take in "Santa's Secret Shop". The parking lot was jammed packed and both the upstairs and downstairs were bustling. The kids were downstairs getting help from little Elves and having their presents wrapped at a whole bunch of stations while the grown ups were upstairs checking out different vendors and their merchandise. They repeat that event this Saturday, starting at 8:30 a.m. and going to 1:30 p.m.

Mineral Point was also bustling Saturday, especially in the evening, with Christmas events such asâCandlelight shopping and roasted chestnuts!

Be sure to check out the entertainment section of this week's paper for more Christmas events going on. There are plenty in the area. Also, look over the correspondents and the update section for more information.

Someone was telling me he was given a Christmas cookie from my late buddy's place - the "Not So" Quality Bakery and it was good. I asked him if he had his taste buds checked recently?!!!
