The stakes for the Madison College women's volleyball team this season just got raised.
The WolfPack has been selected by the NJCAA as the preseason favorite to win this year's Division III National Championship.
Three members of the 2013 team are former River Valley Blackhawks; Vanessa Clarson, Sydney Clarson, and Brooke Gilbertson.
Vanessa Clarson is a 5-foot-1 sophomore defensive specialist who led the WolfPack in digs last season with 532.
Sydney Clarson is a 5-6 defensive specialist and Gilbertson is a 5-9 outside hitter, both are freshmen.
The WolfPack are coming off an impressive 2012 season which saw them finish with a 24-5 overall record, including a North Central Community College Conference (N4C) regular-season championship. Returning from that team is five of six starters, including Vanessa Clarson, as well as the WolfPack's libero.
Madison College is one of two North Central Community College Conference (N4C) teams to be ranked in the preseason top 10. Joining the WolfPack in the poll is Harper College, which is ranked at sixth.
Brookhaven College (Texas), Northland Community & Technical College (ND), Rochester Community & Technical College (Minn), and finally Niagara County Community College (NY) are ranked two through five respectively.
Madison College will begin its season at the College of DuPage Invitational, Friday, Aug. 23.
