One writer's end of summer thoughts

By Brooke Bechen-bbechen@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Every week it seems like there is another celebration going on somewhere in this area, whether it be something a town is holding or a county fair. This can only mean one thing: the end of summer is near.
I remember going to the Iowa County Fair with my family back when I was in high school, watching the demolition derby that Labor Day night, not looking forward to going back to school again for another year.
I've only have to be here for four years, I told myself.
I think a lot of students in the area will have that dreaded feeling that comes with returning back to school. Although I no longer have that feeling (as being an adult, summers are quite different now), I can sympathize with those who do.
Other students are anxious. Anxious to get all their supplies. Anxious to see friends again (although in a small town, they're usually the only people you see all summer!) Anxious to meet a new teacher or study their favorite subject.
As summer comes to a close, I hope those who live for the summer enjoyed it.
Ball games were played. Festivals were held. The heat was relatively manageable and the sun shone quite often!
Hopefully everyone got to take thier summer vacations, visit relatives or explore a place they've never been. Maybe eat an ice cream cone or swim at the pool or lake.
When all the students are sitting in their classrooms, staring aimlessly out the window and tuning out Algebra, I hope they remember all the fun things they did this summer.
For us "adults", hopefully we got to enjoy summer too. The students will learn soon enough to enjoy the time they have!
