Rockies prevail in 12
Neither team had a chance for a post season berth but went after the win. The Knights ended their Western Section season 5-11 while the Rockies completed theirs at 4-12.
Mike Nolden, a player from Belleville who joined the Rockies this year scored the winning run with two outs in the 12th. Dodgeville's Jay Lindner started the inning with a strikeout then Nolden stroked a single.
Lindner then hit opposing pitcher Ray Hean before recording the second out via a fly ball to left. He then walked Logan Benish to load the bases and issued a pass to Alex Schauff that allowed Nolden to jog home with the winning run.
The Knights worked their way to a 4-0 lead after the top of the fifth. They scored a run in the first when Eric Rohowetz singled with the bases loaded to plate Travis Elvert. Ian Streeter and Tanner Solberg had followed a walk to Elvert with singles to load the bases.
The Knights added three runs in the fifth. With one out Mark Ludwig was hit by a pitch and Lindner followed with a single. An error loaded the bases before Streeter singled in a pair of runs. Another error kept the Knights rolling and a bases loaded walk to Kristian Haag made it 4-0.
Hollandale scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap. Schauff singled in one run and Griffin Rear singled in two more.
The Rockies tied it in the sixth when Trevor Binger scored on a double play.
The score stayed at 4-4 until the bottom of the 12th.
Jarred Rear was 2x5 and Mike Schlimgen 2x4 for Hollandale.
Jarred Rear threw 10 innings, fanning 10, walking four and spacing seven hits.
Hean pitched a scoreless inning in relief and got the win. He struck out one.
Streeter was 3x6 for the Knights and Brandon Weier stroked a double.
Brad Simmons, Greg Brennum and Linder all pitched for the Knights.
