Knights win two of three
The Knights also tipped Blanchard-ville 8-2 in an exhibition game Monday.
The loss to Wiota was dimmed from the start. Lead-off hitter Mark Ludwig drilled a shot at the second baseman who could not come up with it cleanly. When he finally found the handle, Ludwig was a few feet from first. He hurried his throw and caught Ludwig in the jaw.
The Knights shortstop was transported to Upland Hills for treatment and later sent to Madison to see a plastic surgeon. He had 20 stitches put on the inside and outside of his face.
The visiting Indians scored in bunches, plating four in the third, three in the fifth and topping it off with one in the eighth. The four run third was helped by a couple Knights errors and three walks.
Two sacrifice flys and a bases loaded walk accounted for the three runs in the fifth.
The Knights had an 11-8 edge in hits. Eric Rohowetz was 2x3 with a solo home run.
Jasper Meeker, who came in for Ludwig, was 3x4 and Jay Lindner was 2x5 with a double and an rbi.
Tony DeMuth added a double while Tanner Solberg, Trent Steffes and Brandon Weier all singled.
Brad Simmons took the loss. He worked four innings, struck out two, walked three and gave up seven runs.
Greg Brennum turned in five strong innings with two strikeouts and a walk. He gave up one run.
Jeff Solberg picked up the win for the Indians.
Against Plain, five runs in the third helped the Knights to the 8-3 win.
Bobby Noland picked up the win and Nic Pierick closed it out, shutting out the A's for the last four innings.
Two errors, three walks and a hit by Ian Streeter accounted for the five runs.
Greg Brennum singled in a run in the second to get the Knights started.
A wild pitch and an infield out pushed across the two in the fifth.
The Knights had four hits, all singles by Ludwig, Ian Streeter, Brandon Weier and Brennum.
In the exhibition game with Blanchardville the Knights scored four times in both the first and second innings for the 8-3 win.
Travis Elvert swung the big bat for the Knights with a three run home run in the first and a two run double in the second.
Ian Streeter also was 2x3 and drove in two runs.
Kristian Haag, Solberg, Rohowetz, Marc Thompson, DeMuth and Weier all had one hit.
Brian Simmons got the pitching decision with five innings of work. He fanned four and gave up six hits.
