It sure was a "different" weekend for the last weekend in July this past one!  I can't remember when the last time I basically wore a "winter" coat at the end of July, especially for two days. I was at the Highland "OUR TOWN" celebration (see above photo) on Saturday and started out without a coat (or long sleeves) on,but soon went to my car to retrieve a covering. Most of the park at Highland is tree covered and the "wintry" breeze shot through it like a bullet! Some people braved it with short sleeve shirts (tops) and/or shorts, but they were few and far between. Heavier coats, sweatshirts and blankets were more plentiful. The fire department sold out of chicken with several looking to purchase some after all was gone. I was looking to take some home, but also was too late! The events were pretty well attended with a little girls softball tournament going on that brought a lot of people. The talent show brought a lot of people to the microphone who probably wouldn't be displaying their talents elsewhere! It was a good event!

Sunday was the Dodgeville Knights final "Sunday" game of the season - it was at Hollandale. I made it there for the first two innings, but then headed to Linden for the Frolic parade. I debated whether to go or not since the event wasn't advertised with us this year. But, our policy isn't to only cover events that are advertised - but it sure does help us a lot. One thing with letting us know about things is knowing what time events are held during the day. I have been to that parade many other times and it began at 2:00 then, so I guessed things hadn't changed and showed up at that time. I was right! The parade had a lot of tractors in it from the ride from Linden/Mineral Point to Belmont and back. I took off right after the parade to try and get back to Hollandale, but when I texted brother Pat about the game, he said it was already in the 7th inning - so I figured I'd get there at about the end and stopped at the office instead. The game went 12 innings, so I could've made it!

The other day I was crossing the main street of Dodgeville (inside the crosswalk) at the Higbee Hotel/Kwik Trip corner. I began crossing when I noticed a car coming from the north and IT JUST WASN'T GOING TO STOP. It carried none other than an IOWA license plate. At the same time there was a WISCONSIN licensed car coming from the south and that driver DIDN'T STOP either! I had already walked a ways out into the street, but retreated in a hurry. There was another Wisconsin licensed vehicle coming from the south and that driver stopped. For some reason I thought it wasn't my time to be hit by a vehicle on the main street!

Monday afternoon/evening "the 4 amigos" myself, Dewey Christoph, Terry Carroll and Bob Kratochwill headed to the Madison Mallards baseball stadium to watch a double header game - the Northwoods League Big League Dreams Showcase that featured the Top 100 Players in the NWL. For everyone except me, it was their first time at "The Duck Pond AKA Warner Park." I was just there a week or so ago when the Home Talent All-Stars played and have been there for a few games prior to that.
