Check out the above photo as a reminder of what we had last summer over the 4th of July weekend (July 6th to be exact). With any luck it just may warm up some by then, but hopefully not quite like last year. Oh, this photo came courtesy of the folks at RR1 Popcorn in Montfort. It was way too hot for me to even go outside and take it!

We received a note, along with a renewal to the Chronicle, from Peggy Cordts of Saint Charles, Illinois. She said: "Thank you. We really enjoy reading the Chronicle. It keeps us in touch with our local area we grew up in. I enjoy Mike's barter with others and comments about crossing the street (without getting hit).

This isn't a crossing the street story, but on Saturday I was driving back to the Chronicle office from being downtown (It was too cold and windy to walk). Just as I began to turn left at the corner of North Iowa and West Merrimac Streets, a vehicle pulled out from a parking spot just a little ways away from me. Of course the driver didn't use a directional to signify they were pulling out into traffic (I did to turn the corner) and we didn't end up that far apart as I turned the corner and they went straight ahead. I did notice the IOWA license plate though!

Speaking of IOWA license plates, the other day I was heading towards Edmund on Highway 18 and had my cruise set on 60 MPH (I know that's speeding). I was behind a vehicle going about 60 also and there was a car behind me. When we reached the extra passing lane. I stayed in the left lane to go by the vehicle in front of me. As I was going past it (creeping by at 60 MPH) I noticed the vehicle in back of me was right on my bumper. I couldn't even see the license plate on the car it was so close, but I could count the number of teeth in the driver's mouth! When I had passed the car I quickly went into the right lane and the car that was playing bumper tag with me went speeding by me. It was then I noticed the IOWA license plate!!!

Sunday was confirmation day for my great-nephew Sean Patrick Reilly - Ryan and Lauri's son - and St. Joseph Church was pretty full. I had a chance to run into quite a few people I hadn't seen in quite some time. That, besides seeing the youngsters in a very happy state of mind, makes that day well worthwhile. We had a get together at Ryan and Lauri's house with quite a few family members from both the Reilly and Nondorf side in attendance. Sean received some pretty good gifts and plenty of cash, which always comes in handy!

Another thing about Sunday was there was some sunshine - something that has been pretty rare around here. Some of the Home Talent guys went to Centennial Park to check out and work on the field in spots where they could. Maybe baseball season will get here sometime!
