It's been pretty exciting watching the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team these past few weeks. Who would've "thunk" at all-star game time the Brewers would even have a sniff at being in the play-offs? At this moment, unless they had a complete breakdown the past few days, they were right in there trying to land the second wild card slot. They need help by some other teams and have to keep winning their own games to make it. It's kind of nice to at least see them in the hunt at the end of a season that could've been written off not too long ago!

This weekend marks the 20th annual Cornish Festival in Mineral Point. It's put on by the Southwest Wisconsin Cornish Society and features many demonstrations, tours, exhibits, talks, get togethers and the Taste of Mineral Point on Saturday from 11-2. It's a time to check out the Celtic heritage that is found in Mineral Point and the area.

Also, this coming Sunday is the annual Oktoberfest celebration in Highland. The area's German heritage can be reclaimed by a trip to St. Anthony & Philip Church. There will be some humongous pumpkins judged and on display, some great German food and lots of entertainment.

I was crossing our main street last week and cars coming from both the north and south immediately stopped for me. Someone was coming out of the Corner Drug Store and commented they were impressed that people stopped for me! I told them they are supposed to as it is the law, but sometimes people don't observe that law. A little later on I was heading south out of town towards Mineral Point and someone was going to cross at the Walnut Street intersection. I stopped to let them cross, but it took the last of four vehicles coming form the south before anyone stopped to let them completely cross. They were out in the intersection waiting as the three vehicles failed to stop!

We had a couple of people not feeling very good last week and one completely missing for an entire day. Oh, did I mention that we had received some cookies from that bakery place down the street - the one run by kids of "my late buddy"? Now I'm not saying that had anything to do with having some ill feeling people!!!
