Dodge-Point girls sweep, boys 2nd at Belleville XC
Several of the usual varsity runners did not participate, but the revamped line-up more than held its own against the field.
Anna Eisenzimmer finished 2nd in 15:50.2 with Brittany Rhyner 3rd in 16:24. Mary Hanson was 7th in 17:18.8 with Megan Hottmann 8th in 17:31.7 and Mikaela Bakker rounded out the scoring with 9th in 17:35.5.
Emilee Grunow was 10th in17:39.5 with Tessa Solberg's 11th in 17:49.8 were the other two varsity finishes.
Baraboo's McKaela Christenson won the race in 15:18.7.
The rest of the team scoring was: Clinton 90, Evansville 102, Belleville 116 and Southwestern-Cuba City 137. Holy Family, Johnson Creek and St. Ambrose Academy also competed, but did not field complete teams.
Other Dodge-Point finishes were: Kennedy Stumpf 14th 18:34.1, Debbie Heth 16th 18:36, Brittany Walczak 22nd 19:01.8, Mariah Zoet 24th 19:03, Caitlyn Bauer 26th 19:14.9, Eliza Godfrey 35th 20:02.4, Mikalah Enright 36th 20:11, Alexis Bauer 38th 20:15.8, Melissa Seman 42nd 20:41.8, Samantha Arnold 50th 22:02.7, Sarah Galle 57th 22:53.9, Sarah Lawinger 65th 24:28.1, Diana Dochnahl 69th 29:19.4.
Dodge-Point coach Denny McGraw talked about his girls teams saying, "The varsity girls won the Belleville Invite by a large margin, beating 2nd place Baraboo with a score of 29 to 66. Anna Eisenzimmer placed 2nd with a time of 15:50 to lead the Dodge-Point varsity girls to a victory. It was nice that the JV girls also won the meet."
Dodge-Point's Trevor Wunnicke won the boys race by nearly a half minute, but the team was edged for the championship 26-30 by Baraboo. He finished in 17:04.7.
Belleville was a distant third with 92, followed by Evansville 96, Clinton 160, Southwestern-Cuba City 185 and Johnson Creek 191. Holy Family and St. Ambrose Academy ran with incomplete teams.
Dodge-Point's Ian Ewers took 3rd in 17:34.6 with Tyler Wunnicke 7th in 18:06.8, Josef Frank 8th in 18:17.1 and Payton Grunow 11th in 18:30.4 as the D-P scorers.
Jack Schickel was 16th in 19:15. and Henry Schickel took 19th in 19:36.2 as the other varsity runners.
The rest of the D-P finishes were: Tannler Ames 24th 19:45.4, Cory Fitzsimmons 28th 19:57.2, Caleb Byers 29th 19:57.9, Chanler Leonard 35th 20:15.5, Chance Whitlatch 44th 20:52.9, Alex Steil 45th 20:57.9, Nathan Eisenzimmer 48th 21:10.8, Preston Phillips 56th 21:48.8, Stewart Thompson 60th 21:59.4, Ty Driscoll 62nd 22:15.3, Dalton Nohns 72nd 23:07.1, Bobby McNeill 81st 24:34, Nolan Pfaff 86th 25:18.6, Eichler Vellinga 89th 26:20.3.
"The varsity boys took second to a very good Division I school, Baraboo," McGraw said. "They only missed first place by 4 points! Trevor Wunnicke led the way with a first place finish of 17:04. The JV boys also took second. It is exciting to see the runners working so hard and improving week to week."
"We look forward to the Janesville Midwest Invite on Saturday, which is our largest meet of the year," the coach pointed out.
The meet is held at the Blackhawk Golf Course, just south of Janesville (exit 174A).
The schedule is: 9:15 Freshmen/Sophomore Girls, 9:50 Freshmen/Sophomore Boys, 10:25 Varsity Girls, 11:00 Varsity Boys, 11:35 JV Girls, 12:10 JV Boys.
Earlier in the week, the Dodge-Point captains for this season were announced. They are: boys-Trevor Wunnicke, Joe Frank and Ian Ewers; girls-Emilee Grunow, Caitlyn Bauer and Anna Eisenzimmer.
