Pretty much every time we receive a renewal from Della Guarraci of Redmond, Washington, we receive some type of note with it. This time she writes: "Please renew my subscription for another year. It was an interesting year. I have enjoyed the news of the past 150 years, some of it was funny and some very tragic and sad. Continue printing it and keep up the good job you have all been doing!"
Della has been away from here for many years, but still writes like it's home! Thanks!

I watched the UW Badgers football team play its "painful" game Saturday night. It was painful to watch even though they won. I had a feeling that final field goal attempt by Utah State wasn't going to be good and it wasn't. People tell me the Badgers improved from the week prior. If that is true, then it could be a long Big 10 season!

Coming up the last Sunday in September (30th) is the annual "OKTOBERFEST" at St. Philip & St. Anthony Church in Highland. There's always some pretty huge pumpkins there for judging plus great food, beverage, games, dancing and even a pumpkin pie eating contest. I heard that John Houck - Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home - is going to be a pie eating contestant. A guy as thin as him probably doesn't even eat pie!

I am getting so tired of people talking on their cell phones while they are driving. Twice last week I almost got hit in my car - once when a driver was on their phone and approached from the east at the round-a-bout while I was going around it from the west to head north on Bennett Road. If I hadn't been looking at the driver, we would've collided - the other when a driver went right through a stop sign on the corner of North and Johns Street (4 way) as I was pulling out from making my stop. And then there's TEXTING while driving!

While I was at the DASFI Golf Outing, several people told me how much they liked reading the 150 Year page in the paper and hoped we'd keep it going after this year. Some suggested a 5-10-25-50-100-150 year mention in a column. I can't tell you how many people tell me they learn something about a relative or a family they knew years back from that page!
