Dodge-Point girls claim River Valley title, boys 5th
Junior Anna Eisenzimmer edged teammate and sophomore Hannah Owens 14:55-14:57 to finish runner-up to Sauk Prairie junior Lianna Mack's 14:53.
Dodge-Point junior Mairin Cahill finished fifth in 15:01.
Then came freshman Brittany Rhyner 16th in 15:49 and sophomore Mary Hanson 25th in 16:18.
The other two varsity runners were: sophomore Emily Philipps 30th in 16:27 and junior Kylie Greenheck 32nd in 16:29.
Dodge-Point coach Denny McGraw talked about his varsity win: "The Varsity girls started out the race in good position, then steadily moved up throughout the race to win the large school division. They were first among 17 teams. It was exciting to see so much orange finish together at the front of the pack. Anna Eisenzim-mer was the top runner for Dodge Point, finishing 2nd for an excellent outing in her first race of the year. Hannah Owens was right behind, finishing 3rd with another stellar performance. Both girls finished under 15 minutes, which is exciting to see. Mairin Cahill paced off the other two and finished 5th right at 15 minutes. She has only scratched the surface of her talents. Brittany Rhyner is a freshmen who ran her first varsity race, and finished 16th among the 115 runners. She looked like a deer in the headlights when she first started, but quickly got into the groove and did a great job."
"Mary Hanson finished 25th with a smart race as she moved up throughout the race and finished strong at the end passing several runners down the stretch. Emily Philipps and Kylie Greenheck rounded out the varsity squad finishing 30th and 32nd. They had solid races and continue to be key members of the team."

River Valley finishes were: Kelsi Wermuth 14th in 15:46, Nikkie Rasmussen 37th in 16:36, Taylor Bettinger 48th in 16:59, Paige Leonard 78th in 17:58, Madeline Miller 86th in 18:12, Nicole Alt 103rd in 19:26, Jordan Wahl 108th in 19:54.
Darlington won the 14-team Small School Division with 60 points to Viroqua's 69.
Westby senior Allyson Daines won in 15:20 with Darlington senior Christa Wamsley second in 15:35.
Iowa-Grant/Highland had two runners. Senior Grace Enloe was 80th in 18:46 and junior Chakayla Stanek was 89th in 19:24.
Dodge-Point's girls JV finished third with 63 points. Dubuque Senior won with 30, followed by Midddleton at 37. River Valley took 18th out of the 21 teams.
Sophomore Mikaela Bakker and junior Tessa Solberg finished 6-7 in the race with times of 16:55 and 16:56. Sophomore Megan Hott-mann was 13th in 17:1 with senior Emilee Grunow 15th in 17:14, freshman Kennedy Stumpf 22nd in 17:53, junior Debbie Heth 27th in 18:48 and sophomore Brittany Walczak 29th in 18:09.
Other JV finishes were: freshman Mariah Zoet 47th 18:20, senior Caitlyn Bauer 57th 18:25, sophomore Shianne Carroll 76th 18:54, freshmanAlexis Bauer 103rd 19:25, junior Mikalah Enright 106th 19:29, junior Melissa Seman 175th 20:32, freshman Sarah Galle 215th 21:28, senior Sarah Lawinger 254th 22:57.
McGraw said about his JV, "The JV girls had another strong showing at the Blackhawk Invitational on Saturday. They placed 3rd among 21 teams, only being bested by 2 large Division 1 schools."
There were also 17 boys varsity teams competing in the Large School Division and Dodge-Point finished fifth.
Dubuque Senior won with 40 points, followed by La Follette with 46, Freedom at 58, Middleton with 123 and Dodge-Point with 134.
Other team scores were: Sun Prairie 187, DeForest 211, Mauston 228, Holmen 230, River Valley 304, Mount Horeb 326, Lodi 331, Sauk Prairie 359, Wisconsin Dells 423, Reedsburg Area 431, Edgerton 438, Richland Center/Ithaca 485.
Individually, in a tight race, Dodge-Point senior Trevor Wunnicke took third in 16:01, following La Follette senior Chandler Diffee's 15:57 and Dubuque Senior's Dylan Eigenberger at 15:59.
Senior Ian Ewers was 17th in 17:08 with sophomore Tyler Wunnicke 27th in 17:29, senior Joe Frank 34th in 17:40, freshman Payton Grunow 53rd in 18:24, freshman Jack Schickel 65th in 18:39 and junior Henry Schickel 76th in 18:55.
"The Varsity Boys finished 5th place among 17 teams," McGraw pointed out. "Trevor Wunnicke ran an excellent race, placing 3rd. He is a strong runner who is fun to watch as he competes with some of the best runners in the state. Ian Ewers finished 17th, taking over a minute off of his time from last year. He is excited about the year, staying focused and running well. Tyler Wunnicke placed 27th and is beginning to really show what he is capable of. We know he will just continue to get stronger as the year progresses. Joe Frank placed 34th and is running very well and showing good leadership in practice and at meets. Payton Grunow is a freshmen who is really stepping it up to help the varsity squad, placing 53rd in a huge invite. Jack Scheckel and Henry Scheckel rounded out the varsity squad with very good races."
New Glarus-Monticello senior Ryan McCoy beat Darlington junior Tyson Miehe 15:37 to 16:04 for the Small School Division championship.
Darlington took the team crown esily with 35 points to runner-up Boscobel's 81. Iowa-Grant/High-land took 12th with 297 points.
Finishes for IG/H were: sophomore Jordan Jenks 15th 7:35, sophomore Ethan McCracken 60th 19:11, senior Cody Wall 72nd 19:40, junior Alex Pillow 77th 19:50, senior Shaun Soman 82nd 20:07 and junior Charles Connolly 97th 20:41.
There were 320 runners and 2 teams in the boys JV race. Dubuque Senior won easily with 21 points, followed by La Follette with 62 and Middleton at 78, Freedom with 92 and Darlington at 144, Sun Prairie with 158 and Dodge-Point (7th) at 203.
Dodge-Point junior Cory Fitzsimmons finished 21st in 18:51 followed by fellow juniors Caleb Byers 37th 19:19, Tannler Ames 41st 19:24, Chanler Leonard 45th 19:30, Alex Steil 59th 19:51, Chance Whitlatch 61st 19:51, and Preston Phillips 83rd 20:44.
Other finishes were: freshman Ty Driscoll 121st 20:47, freshman Nathan Eisenzimmer 134th 21:02, freshman Stewart Thompson 139th 21:08, senior Shane Kieffer 143rd 21:09, freshman Bobby McNeill 22:18, junior Nolan Pfaff 284th 24:28, senior Eichler Vellinga 289th 25;02, freshman Tristan Wilkins 308th 26:20.
"The JV Boys had a very respectable 7th place finish, among 22 teams. There were 320 runners jammed into the starting lanes. It was quite an event to see. We are pleased that so many boys finished under 20 minutes and we look for them to continue to improve each week," were the coaches commments about his boys JV team.
Iowa-Grant/Highland finishes were: freshman Benjamin Connolly 115th 20:34, sophomore Creighton Biddick 154th 21:13, junior Kyle Faull 188th 21:43.
There is also a Middle School Division for both boys and girels run at River Valley.

The Dodgeville girls finished 9th with 207 points and the boys won the event with 79.
