Panthers roll in final, ready for Vikings Friday

Iowa-Grant's football team is ready for the post season and will start with a home game Friday.
The Panthers are hosting Pecatonica-Argyle, an over achieving team from the Six Rivers Conference that has battled through injuries all season. They have been a team that it helps to have a program ready to see who is filling what role on game night.
But the Vikings are relatively healthy now and are respected by Panther coach Gary Allen and his staff.
"Pec-Argyle has an excellent program," Allen says. "They are athletic and physical. We will need to play very well."
Kind of like how the Panthers played last Friday when they closed out their SWAL season with a 37-8 win over Riverdale. The Panthers held the Chieftains scoreless for three quarters and set the tone with 21 unanswered points in the first quarter.
Tucker Sarbacker scored twice for the Panthers and led the ground game with 12 carries for 119 yards. He put the first six on the board with a five yard run then quarterback Derek Peat followed with a nine yard scamper and Eli Wienkes won an 82 yard race for the first period scores. Cody Rider kicked all three conversions.
Sarbacker sent the score to 27-0 at the half with a four yard plunge in the second quarter.
Rider boomed a 27 yard field goal in the third quarter and Peat finished the scoring with a fourth quarter 16 yard pass play to Dakota Barnes. Rider added the conversion.
A blocked punt led to a 44 yard return for Riverdale's lone score.
The Panthers had 279 yards rushing and another 70 passing as Peat hit seven of his 10 attempts. The Panther defense limited Riverdale to 67 ground yards and 36 passing.
Sarbacker's two scores came from his ability to be dangerous with a little help from his line.
"Tucker is an aggressive runner and can be explosive if given a little room to run," Allen said.
The Panthers had a play-off spot wrapped up going into the game but Allen said they did not miss a beat.
"Our guys have done a great job of focusing on doing their jobs regardless of the score or time on the clock," Allen said. "That includes our back-ups. When they get a chance to play they do their jobs well."
Peat's time at quarterback after being forced into the role after an injury to TJā€ˆAnderson early in the season has been well spent.
"Derek has come a long way in a short time when it come to learning the quarterback position," Allen said as Peat completed seven of 10 attempts. "Our receivers have stayed positive and patient. They did a nice job getting open and catching the ball."
On the defensive side of the football the Panthers also turned in a strong performance.
"Coach Johannesen had a good game plan and the kids were really locked in," Allen said. "It was very much a team effort on defense. Our defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage and our perimeter players controlled the edges. The secondary was in good position when they threw the ball...a great team effort."
Allen feels the Panthers are in a good place as they open the post season.
"We wanted to hit the play-offs on a roll and we think we are," Allen said. "We played aggressive and smart Friday. We think we have been improving a little each week and now we are going in the right direction."
Game time Friday is 7 p.m.
