Dodge-Point soccer goes 1-1 in tourney

Dodgeville-Mineral Poin's soccer team accomplished something no other SWC team did this season - make it through the first round of play-offs.
The Division 2 #11 seeded Dodge-Point team won a thrilling shootout contest with #6 Sugar River on Tuesday, October 9 at Harris Park in Dodgeville.
Sugar River scored first, but Jonah Lassanske answered and then fed Ethan Elsner for a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Sugar River scored twice to open the second period and take a 3-2 lead, but the Elsner from Lassanske combination worked to tie it in the 70th minute.
In the two overtmes, neither team could connect to the back of the net, so a shootout was the last resort to find a winner.
D-P goalie Steven Stadler stopped the first Sugar River shooter - which proved big - and Braxton Kirschbaum gave Dodge-Point a 1-0 lead. The teams traded goals wih Ryan Bell and Elsner matching two Sugar River scores for a 3-2 D-P advantage. Sugar River tied it at 3-3, setting the stage for Lassanske, who hit the back of the net for a 4-3 win.
Stadler netted 21 saves on the day.
Thursday, neither Dodge-Point or #4 Madison Edgewood could score in the opening half.
Edgewood's Sean Bellissimo scored at the 58th minute and Andrew Sois in the 62nd minute and the final score stood at 2-0.
Stadler had four saves on the day.
"I was proud that we were the only conference team to get out of the first round," said Dodge-Point coach Bill Faltz. "I hope the kids looked around when they played at Edgewood. The view with the capitol building in the background was something to behold."
"We had a prety good season," the coach concluded.
Dodge-Point finished 6-3-2 in SWC play and 8-9-2 overall.
