Along The Ad Routes

The Dodgeville High School Athletic Hall of Fame committee pulled off another great induction ceremony Friday night following the football game. There was especially a lot of emotion from the DHSâbaseball team that competed in the school's first state tournament. That was a team from 1949 and the first state baseball tournament was held just the year before. There were no divisions, so they had to play teams from Milwaukee and Madison. One of the highlights of the night was when the team members gave the autographed baseball that was used on the last pitch of their state tournament game to be displayed in the Hall of Fame trophy case. It was signed by each team member and the famed coach John "Weenie"âWilson.

I spanned 50 years in one day on Saturday. At around 1 p.m. I went to the Dodge Point Country Club and took a photo of the Dodgeville high School graduating class of 1947. About four hours later I was at Ludden Lake Country Club taking a photo of the DHSâclass of 1952 - of which my late buddy Mike Crubaugh was a member. It was his wife Florence who conned me into taking the picture! Then, maybe I covered more than 50 years, when I was at the Linden Community Building around 8 p.m. to take photos of the Linden School Reunion. I finished my day by stopping at Sam &âMaddies to say hi to several members of the DHSâClass of 1997 - that's where the 50 years came into play!âI told many of them I was the "oldest" member of the class of 1997 and they agreed that I was as much of a member of that class as anyone!

Friday night's Dodgeville football game didn't end the way we wanted it to and neither did Sunday's Green Bay Packers game. Both teams gave up scores right near the end and couldn't come up with the big return score to win or tie. The Dodgers lost an onside kick that was a huge factor in them not able to win. The Packers just couldn't get anything going in the second half after a pretty good first half. They missed two pretty long field goals and weren't as "fired up" as the Indianapolis Colts. I think they need a "Vince Lombardi" in the locker room at halftime!

I receive a call last week with a woman asking me when Daylight Savings Time was going to take place his year. So there isn't any confusion, it will be on Sunday, November 4th at 2:00 a.m. - just two days before it's time to VOTE!
