Arrows show their strength at Dodgeville
Teams are finding out how great the Flying Arrows are and last Friday was Dodgeville's turn.
And it was a tough lesson to learn.
The Arrows shot past the Dodgers 68-7 and had all their points on the board before the host team scored late in the game.
The Dodgers' touchdown came courtesy of a 12 yard Austin Larson to Nick Crowley pass and Jacob Hanson kicked the conversion.
Scoring for the Arrows came from several sources as Lancaster showcased their talent. Troy Baker scored on runs of 24, 59 and 20 yards. AJ Day took in a 31 yarder. Brock Snider scored twice on runs of eight and 20 yards. Tyler Glass scored on a two yard run. Lucas Vincent went 30 with a blocked punt and Nate Tranel ran in from the 43. Hunter Budack kicked six extra points while Kyle Mezera passed to Kyle Jarrett for a touchdown from 30 out and also ran for a two point conversion.
The Arrows pounded out 435 yards on the ground and scored on virtually every possession with the starters in the game. They threw for 76 more.
The Arrow defense limited the Dodgers to 27 yards on the ground and Larson threw for 150, completing 10 of 20.
"Lancaster is a good program and a good football team," Dodgeville coach Ryan Bohnsack said. "What they did shows the work they put in during the off season in the weightroom. We need to change our culture, continue the learning process and get more involved in the weight room. Right now they are better than us."
How good are they?
"I don't know who will get in their way on the road to state," Bohnsack said. "Coach Hoch says this might be the best team he's had and I would agree. They are very good."
Bohnsack said the Arrows are so quick and strong that they ran over and past the Dodgers.
"We got run over," he said. "Right now they are ahead of us but with work, we can catch up. But we have to put in the work."
The bright spot of the game is that the Dodgers came through injury free. But, the flu bug has taken its toll this week and Bohnsack is hoping the players recover to return to the field for Friday's homecoming game with Prairie du Chien.
"We may have some freshmen playing if we don't get people healthy," Bohnsack said.
