Turnovers plague Cards vs Seneca

It is good news for the future when freshmen step up and lead their team in scoring.
But it does not make for good reading in the present.
"We are young but we need more players to get involved in scoring," said Highland coach Josh Tarrell after a 40-28 loss to Seneca in a girls basketball non-conference game Tuesday. Seneca was led by Logan Lessard and Alexis Payne as both notched 11.
Freshman Caitlyn Wienkes had a pair of three pointers and led the Cardinals with 16 points. Classmate Bailey Rose added six.
"Caitlyn was steady and had at least four points each quarter," Tarrell said. "She had a nice game."
The Cardinals took awhile to gel and scored 12 of their 28 points the last quarter.
"We finished strong," Tarrell said.
But the rest of the game turned into too many turnovers and too many mistakes by the young squad.
"We are young," Tarrell said. "We need to improve our defense and our passing. We are taking steps but right now they are small ones."
The Cardinals will be busy the next few days. They host Albany Friday, Monticello Saturday at 3 p.m. in a boys-girls doubleheader and then head to Fennimore Monday.
