Crowley comes up big in Dodger win over Heights
The win puts the Dodgers 2-0 early on in the 2012-13 season.
They now take a break until Tuesday, November 27 when they invade neighboring Mineral Point in their third straight non-conference game.
Crowley hit 12 shots from the field (one three pointer) and was good on 9 of 11 free throws.
For the second consecutive game, eight Dodgers scored with all 11 who suited up getting valuable playing time.
Nate Hottmann popped in 14 points as the other player to reach double figures.
"Nick had the points, but the success for us comes when everybody contributes and that's what happened tonight," said Dodger coach Ryan Bohnsack. "Two of our 'bigs' Dylan Shaffer contributed scoring and went 3 for 3 from the line and Mitchell Olson led us in rebounding with 11."
The Dodgers jumped to a 19-9 lead after the first quarter and were up 37-22 by halftime.
They stretched that lead to 18 points before Heights went on a run and cut the lead to seven at 44-37. Then Crowley and company took over and outscored the Vanguards 39-16 the rest of the way.
Nine players scored for Heights with junior forward Will Doherty leading them with 13 points.
"We made some very nice passes on fast breaks and our turnovers were a lot better at 12," Bohnsack pointed out. "We need to improve our defense and not allow the rebound shots that we did. It got too tight when it was 44-37," the coach added.
"This is really a fun group of guys who work hard and play well together," the coach went on saying. "They pick each other up. Tonight Larson was in foul trouble, so he couldn't make his usual moves to score - but he had some very nice assists. So Nate stepped up and hit some big shots."
"We've got a week off now to work on the things we need to improve on. That will be nice," Bohnsack concluded.
