Cardinals fall out of title hunt
Thursday, the dropped a 3-2 decision to Cassville-River Ridge.
Emily Wolfe strick out seven, walked two and gave up three runs on three hits. She alswo had a wild pitch. Only two of the runs were earned.
Taylor Wienkes was 2x3 at the plate with Kelly Ramsden 1x4 with a double. Alicia Ramsden was 1x2 with an RBI while Kari McMannes was 1x3 with an RBI. Leigh Drury was 1x3.
Cassville-RR scored two runs in the fifth. highland tied it in the sixth and with two out in the seventh a bad hop sigle plated the winning tally.
"It was a tough loss," saaid Highland coach Sarah Hennessey. "We knew that put us out of the conference race."
Friday, the dropped a 7-0 cntest to Potosi with pitcher Kristi Bartels giving themjust two hits.
"The girls were really down after the loss last night," Hennessey said. "We have to come out to play with more intensity.
Tuesday, the Cardinals tuned up for tournament play (they have a bye Thursday) with a non-conference match with Richland Cewnter of the SWC.
The Lady Hornets prevailed in a slugfest 14-12.
Wolfe worked three innnings striking our five, walking two and alowing two earned reuns on four hits.
McMannes relieved her and struck out three, walked six, hit a batter andgave up six hits, but 12 runs - 10 of which were earned.
Wolfe was 2x2, scoring a run and poppng two triples. Alicia Ramsden was 2x4 with a double and RBI. Drury ws 2x5, scoring twice andd having three RBI. Kelly Ramsden was 2x4 with two doubles and two RBI. McMannes was 1x4 with two RBI. Chakayla Stanek was 1x2 and scored twice. Wienkes was 1x5 scoring twice and driving in a run in the first and another in the sixth Miranda Stanek was 1x3, scoring once and driving in a run.
Richland Center's Rochelle Goplin went three frames striking out five without a walk. She gave up five runs on five hits. Sydney Meeker finished striking out five, walking one and giving up six runs (4 earned) on five hits.
Hornets Haileey Simpson and Brooklyn Eing both were 2x5. Simpson had a double and Ewing a riple. Rchel Gunderson also doubled.
"We put runners on and made some errors," Hennessey said. "We also made some base running mistakes."
