Support systems are helpful in life

By by Steph Carley-

I have been talking a lot about my upcoming graduation and this past Saturday it finally happened. During the ceremony I couldn't help but think about how lucky I am to have had the support of my family throughout college. Without my parents, boyfriend, and other extended family and friends I would have never made it.
While I am a driven person, I am also a very stressful person. People that support me have always been there to keep me in check when they saw me becoming overwhelmed. It is very important to have people in your life that support your decisions and goals.
Not everybody is lucky enough to have supportive family members, but there are other ways to build support systems. If you have a passion about something, I think it is great to find other people that share that passion. Look for blogs, web sites, forums, and other social media outlets. People on these sites are probably just as passionate about the topic and they just could become a support system.
While other people's support has gotten me through some very stressful years, it shouldn't be the end to what you do with your life. If everybody around me wanted me to stop baking and told me that I shouldn't do it anymore, it would very tough to hear, but it still wouldn't stop me. Having a support system is key to a lot of people's success and can be great motivation. But if you don't have it and can't find it via social media, then using it as motivation is the best way to get where you want to be.
