River Valley comeback thwarts Dodgers


Dodgeville's softball team was sailing along with a 3-1 lead and pitcher Sam Arnold was cruising with a four hitter, but then the River Valley bats came alive.
The Lady Blackhawks scored once in the fifth, five times in the sixth and four times in the seventh for an 11-3 win over their hosts.
The Dodger committed just one error on the day, so 0 of the runs were earned off of Arnold. She struck out six and walked eight.
River Valley's Emma Voss had allowed jus two hits while giving up the three runs through four frames. She struck out eight, walked five and hit three batters.
Carly Kraemer, Mackenzie Price and Sydney Clarson each had three hits. Price had a double as a key hit in the sixth.
Rachael Van Woert was 2x5 with a double and Julie Eberle had a solo home run and a single.
Dodgeville ha two hits from Brooke Lee and Faith Loy with Samantha Crowley getting one. Loy and Lee had the RBI.
"Defensively we played our best game of the year. Our only error was on a hit that game them an extra base hit," said Dodgeville coach Gene Van Dyck. "Brooke, Samantha and Hailey all had great defensive plays.
"Offensively we just didn't have a good night as we swung at too many marginal or bad pitches and grounded out weakly or struck out with runners in scoring position.
"We were ahead 3-2, but in the sixth they homered to tie it and then had five straight hits to score four runs and put the game away
"Sam's control was off and the plate was extremely tight, so when she tired and had to come ino the middle of the plate, they hit it.".
