Cardinals win three of four
So, the Cardinals put up eight runs in the top of the sixth and went on to beat the Braves 12-3.
Bailey Bodenstein's grand slam home run was the big blast in the eight run uprising. He finished with five rbis on the day.
Tyler Kleist ripped a two run shot earlier in the frame to tie the game.
Brenden McCoullough was 2x4 with a double and an rbi for Highland. Nic Pierick went 2x5 with a double and drove in a run. Andrew Wolfe went 2x5.
Mitchell Riley hurled the win, striking out five, walking two and giving up six hits. Only one of the runs off him were earned.
"Mitchell stayed with it until he got the calls," said coach Terry Cool. "He worked hard and kept us in the game."
"I was happy with how well we played," Cool added.
In other action last week the Cardinals swept a doubleheader from Argyle, winning 12-4 and 15-1.
McCoullough pitched the win in the 12-4 win and struck out 11 as he went the distance. He walked three and spaced four hits.
Dalton Michek and Pierick both homered in the win. Pierick and Nate Robinson both doubled.
Andrew Wolfe went 2x3, also for the Cardinals and Kleist was 2x4 with two rbis.
Wolfe pitched the win in the 15-1 second game and struck out 10. He also contributed a home run.
The Cardinals played some long ball in the win as Wolfe, Bailey Bodenstein, McCoullough, Pierick and Austin Yager all reached the fences.
The Cards had 15 hits in the win.
"Brenden kept us in the first game and we gave him some runs," Cool said. "We hit the ball extremely well in the second game."
Monday the Cards lost a squeaker to Potosi, 4-3.
Pierick struck out 10 and limited Potosi to five hits but took the loss. He gave up two earned runs.
Kleist homered in the sixth to get the Cards within one but they could get no closer.
