Pointers 3rd at two SWAL golf meets


Mineral Point golfers snuck into third place both Thursday and Monday in separate SWAL conference meet held at Dodge Point and Deer Valley.
Cuba City won the Deer Valley meet as expected behind medalist Alex Stewart (37) and a team total of 158.
Again, as usual, Sothwestern took the runner-up spot at 169.
The Pointers totaled 175 to edge out usual third place finisher Darlington that had 178.
Rounding out the scores were: Argyle-Pecatonica 182, Iowa-Grant 197, Fennimore 208 and Barneveld 218.
The Pointers were led by Taylor Ryman's 38 with Bailey Berget adding 42, Niko Hagen with a 47 and Jordan Kittleson at 48. A.J. Bandyk had 51 as the fifth man.
Argyle-Pec scores were: Chris Severson 42, Jacob Melvin 45, Grant Barnes 47 and Brandon Watkins 48. Zach Shilling had a 49.
Iowa-Grant's Derek Peat shot 40 with Brett Wunderlin hitting 49, Jordan Jenks at 52 and Asa Burton with a 56.
Scores for Barneveld were: Tanner Sullivan 49, Dakota Carden 5, Heather Evans 57 and Jeremy Whitish 58. Colton Owens had a 62.
Thursday, at Dodge Point, the Cubans won easily with a 150 total followed by Darlington's 163.
The Pointers edged Southwestern 175-176 for third.
Argyle-Pecaonica was fifth with 182 with Iowa-Grant at 197, Fennimore with 202 and Barneveld at 218.
Cuban Alex Stewart again was medalist with a two under par 33, followed by Southwestern's Josh Smith at 35.
The Pointers were led by Taylor Ryman's 37 with AJ Bandyk at 42, Bailey Bergey with 46 and Niko Hagen at 50. Jordan Kittleson shot 51.
Scores for Argyle-Pec were: Christopher Severson 38, Jacob Melbin 47, Grant Barnes 48 and Zach Shilling 49. Brandon Watkins also had a 49.
Iowa-Grant's Derek Peat shot 41 while Brett Wunderlin had a 48, Jordan Jenks 49 and Jordan Olson 59. Austin Upmann had a 64.
Barneveld's Tanner Sullivan and Dakota Carden both shot 48 with Colton Owens at 57 and Brenden Beno having a 65. Heather Evans shot 67.
