Barrette pitches Pointers past Braves

Mineral Point hurler Nolan Barrette threw a neat four hitter at Belmont Saturday and helped the Pointers to a non-conference win.
Barrette issued whitewash innings in all seven frames as the Pointers eased to an 8-2 win. He struck out seven, walked four, giving up solo runs in the second and fifth.
"Nolan had another good outing on the mound," said Pointer coach Dan Burreson.
The Pointers took on the Braves with a revamped line-up and came up with seven hits. Lance Miller went 2x3 and drove in a run for the Pointers. Nick Mohlmann was 2x4 with a triple and an rbi. Brady Tibbits, Logan Benish and and Dakota Poad each had one hit.
"I thought we did a great job today putting the ball in play and advancing runners," said Burreson. "Along with that our base running was very good. We talk all the time about the little things and I think were were pretty good at the little things today."
Tarek Oellerich made a couple nice plays at first," Burreson said. "Lance Miller has been steady at third and added a couple hits today. Nick swung well and went 2x4. Dakota Poad drove in a pair of runs and Tucker Pickel did a good job in his first start behind the plate."
