Along The Ad Routes

Barneveld students showed off their school spirit both Thursday and Saturday in Division 5 girls basketball games against Black Hawk and Heritage Christian. The school does not have the usual girl cheerleaders, so usually a boy or two improvises as the leader of the noise. The game against Black Hawk came right down to the end with Barneveld pulling it out. The Heritage Christian contest unfortunately didn't go that way with Barneveld missing out on a trip to state by one game.

Two other area girls basketball teams also missed out on a trip to state this coming weekend by one game as Cuba City and Richland Center both lost their sectional championship game.

I've been asking people how many times have you.......! I'm talking about the temperatures we've been experiencing. Like - How many times in mid- March have I walked from the Dodgeville Chronicle to Jeffrey's in my shirt sleeves at 7:30 at night to take the Dodgeville City League Basketball trophy pictures? How many times has St. Joseph Catholic Church had the air conditioning running on Sunday in mid March? How many times during boys state basketball has it been 70 degrees on Saturday morning by 10:00? How many times have the temperature back in Wisconsin been the same as it is in Arizona where The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs hold spring training? How many time have you driven a full week in mid March with the windows down (or top down) in your vehicle? How many times have you seen farmers in the fields in mid March starting "spring" work? How many times have there been garage sales held outside in mid March? The list could go on and on!

The Iowa County Humane Society will hold an "Artist to the Rescue" Art Auction Saturday at Hill's Pub, north of Dodgeville (formally Thym's). This is one of the fundraisers held by people from the area to benefit the humane society - something really needed by people in the county. If you have a chance, stop out and see what the area artists have donated to sell in raising funds for ICHS!

I was crossing the downtown main street the other day and a vehicle stopped for me that was coming from the south. There wasn't any vehicle coming from the north except for someone who had already gone through the intersection (a good ways from me) - but that driver yelled out "Hit him! Now, there must've been someone else crossing the street that I didn't see. For sure that couldn't have been directed at me!

With the weather the way it's been lately, it's good to see there are some of the Dodgeville Home Talent baseball team players asking about practice with even some stopping at the office to get a key for the Centennial Park shelter to go out and throw around some baseballs. That is another thing that hasn't happened in mid-March that i can remember!

We are in the process of publishing a Spring Home Improvement special section in a few weeks. If there is anyone out there looking to promote their business that we haven't contacted, feel free to get hold of anyone at the office for information. This should be a good spring for improvements!
