Eagles play Heritage Christian at 4 Saturday


Barneveld's girls basketball team will face Heritage Christian Saturday in the WIAA Division 5 sectional final for the right to go to state.
The game will be played at Fort Atkinson High School with tip-off set at 4 p.m. The Golden Eagles are the number two seed coming out of the upper bracket. They beat Black Hawk, the number 1 seed, 43-40 Thursday in the sectional semi-finals.
The Heritage Christian Patriots went undefeated in the Midwest Classic North Division to win their second title in three seasons. In conference play, they won all but three games by double digits and had a 22-point margin of victory.
Heritage finished its regular season with three of the league's top six scorers, all of whom are sophomores. Moriah Begin is second in the league with an average of 17.6 points per game and dishes out a team-high 3.6 assists per game. Forward Jazmine Harris ranks fourth with 17 points plus grabs 10 rebounds per game. Guard Jamera Sandifer ranks sixth with 16 points. Freshman guard Kurstyn Gordan adds six points. Heritage (20-2) closed the regular season with 16 straight victories.
Heritage Christian, located in Brookfield, was the number one seed in the lower bracket. They beat Williams Bay 81-10 to open their tournament play then handled Living Word Lutheran 67-44 and Catholic Central 58-33 to make the sectional finals.
