Barrnevld's boys basketball team had the looks they wanted down the stretch - the only problem was the ball didn't go in.
That was the case Saturday afternoon in a weather postponed Division 5 Regional semifinal game held at Barneveld. The winner was Central Wisconsin Christian 48-45.
"We had two open looks at the end and they just didn't fall," said Barneveld coach Shawn Sullivan. They got us by four free throws and we lost by two points."
The Eagles led 12-7 after the first quarter and 23-22 at the half.
They scored the first seven points of the third quarter to go up by eight, but CWC chipped its way back in and the lead stayed at one at the end of three.
CWC outscored the Eagles 16-12 in the fourth with 6'7" Trevor De Vries hitting all three of his free throws.
De Vries led his team offensively with 15 points.
Barneveld's Sawyer Lee led all scorers with 17, 16 in the first three quartrers. Devon Schult added 12, including a pair of three pointers.
"They did a nice job taking Jeremy (Whitish) out of his game," Sullivan said as the point guard only had two points on the night. "They played nine kids and have a nice squad. I thought both teams played well. We just came out on the short end."
"Most programs would be tickled with 21 wins in a season, but we fell short of our goals we had set," he added.
"I want to thank the seniors. It all started with them. All five have done things to make this program successful. We should have a good future," Sullivan concluded.
They are: Sam Nechkash, Sawyer Lee, Colton Moyer, Austin Moyer and Austin Mason.
