Along The Ad Routes

It was a pretty packed house Saturday for the "weather postponed" Dodgeville boys basketball game against Richland Center that saw the Dodgers advance to the Division 2 Regional Finals. The student section, as well as the adults stood up for this cheer by the DHS cheer squad.

I haven't seen much of my "sometimes" friend, Laurie at the Look Beauty Salon in Highland lately. She has been teaching a course at Southwest Tech on Wednesday when I drop newspapers off for her to sell there. One of her employees, however, told me that she can't understand why none of the students want to style their hair the way she does! If you ever saw her you would know what i was talking about! Anyway, whenever I talk about my "sometimes" friend, Laurie always comes back at me - "I'd like to know when you're ever my friend!"

This Tuesday was the start of the high school girls basketball tournament. I want to wish all the area teams good luck in their pursuit of getting to state and coming home with a gold ball!

We received a few notes with subscription orders recently. One came from Wanda Owens from Barneveld. She thanked us for our excellent coverage of Barneveld basketball games and at the same time mentioned that we sometimes spelled her granddaughter Becka's name wrong. Sorry - sometimes we get in a hurry writing and the more common spelling pops into our heads!
Another came from Bea Berg, who thanks us for the timely delivery and said: "I am so enjoying the history section you are doing for the 150th Anniversary." She said after the front page she always turns to the Viewpoint page. She said Jeanie Lewis (meaning Jean Jones - many people get the two mixed up) does a great job with the articles. She told Pat to keep writing the "After 50" short stories and said "The Dodgeville Chronicle is a weekly paper to be proud of for many reasons."

I probably get an average of a comment a day about the 150th page and the way the stories were written back then. Legendary Dodgeville coach Bob Buck commented on the latest page when I saw him Saturday just after the Dodgeville boys basketball game.

I was at Dodgeville Piggly Wiggly the other day and came out of an aisle and a person in a riding cart almost ran into me. The driver said: "I would've run into you, but I'm not from IOWA!

It was terribly early in the day last Wednesday for a fairy tale to be told me, but Dave Gollon stopped in and told me the best fairy tale I have ever heard. It seems there is a business in Pewaukee who a place called Gollon's Bait Shop of Dodgeville delivers to and the owners have a special request when they make a delivery. They want the driver to bring along a dozen doughnuts from the Dodgeville Quality Bakery. It seems they had tasted them on a trip to Dodgeville and can't find anything like them anywhere else (now that's a mouthful!). The story gets even better as the business even offered as much as $30 for delivery. Now isn't that as good of a fairy tale as you have heard in a long time?!!!

We received a note from Kristine (Studee) Dreger asking us to mention that her brother, Lonnie Studee - a Dodgeville High School graduate - has been in rehab for 7 months at Select Specialty Hospital, room 374, 801 Braxton Place, Madison, WI 53715. He would like to hear from classmates and friends.
