Eagles seek SRE crown tonight

When the final horn sounds tonight the Barneveld Golden Eagles girls basketball team would like nothing more than to have the score in their favor.
That would mean their Six Rivers East record would be 11-1 and they would either be the conference champions or share the title with Black Hawk.
Both teams have their work cut out for them.
Black Hawk is entertaining a dangerous 7-4 Juda squad which would like nothing more than to play the role of spoiler.
Barneveld has Pecatonica visiting the Eagles gym and are not letting the 2-9 conference mark owned by the Vikings fool them. They know when these two teams play, records are all but meaningless.
The first time the two teams met the Eagles won 48-24. But, the Vikings have picked up the pace lately and last Thursday disposed of Albany 54-31.
The Eagles come into the game on the heels of a 51-37 win over Monticello last Thursday. That game saw nine girls score, everyone receive substantial playing time and a minimum of fouls called.
A total of 12 free throws were shot in the game, thanks to only 11 fouls called on Barneveld even though the Eagles pressed for 2 1/2 quarters, and eight on Monticello.
Barneveld was five of six from the free throw line while Monticello was three of six.
Madi Laube led all scorers with 15 points for Barneveld and Hailey Cannoy added 14. Laube nailed a trio of three pointers and Cannoy came away with two.
Becky Nelson paced Monticello with 10 points.
"There were not many whistles and that made it tough on the girls," said Barneveld coach Jim Myers. "But it was a good win and helped us bounce back from our loss to New Glarus last week."
Barneveld opened with a 15-5 first quarter and led 23-12 at the half.
"We told the girls we have to play all 32 minutes hard and we did that," Myers said. "All the girls got meaningful minutes in this one which is good because we knew we had to be ready for Monticello on their home court."
"Playing hard for 32 minutes will help us down the stretch."
The Eagles open post season play Tuesday when they host Cambria-Friesland at 7 p.m.
