Drury nets 30 in non-conference Highland win
But, Leigh Drury came through with 30 points and Taylor Wienkes added 18 to turn back the Lady Bulldogs 61-51 in a non-conference match-up.
Drury was especially hot the second half when she put in 20 of her 30. Wienkes had a strong fourth quarter with seven of her 18 on a pair of baskets and three free throws.
"Leigh started off flat but she fought through it," said coach Josh Tarrell. "She finally got the looks she wanted and 30 points were the result."
It was one of those games where the Cardinals got the lead but it was never enough for the Bulldogs to go away.
"They wanted it for their coach," Tarrell said. "They ran the flex offense and it got them some good looks coming off the screens. We had problems adjusting."
But the adjustments were finally made and while Ithaca stayed within a few points, the Cardinals were always able to pull away.
"Our offense was better," Tarrell said. "They wouldn't go away but we were able to hang on for the win."
The Cardinals host Benton tonight for their last Six Rivers West game of the year and Princeton Tuesday for the opening of post season play.
