Knights outlast Rockies, 9-5


Greg Brennum took the ball and threw it well, getting the Dodgeville Knights into the eighth inning Friday and eventually past the Hollandale Rockies, 9-5.
The win moved the Knights to 5-1 on the season and sets the tone for the double weekend coming up. They travel to Verona Saturday and to Blanchardville Sunday.
Brennum, a lefty in his second year with the Knights, gave up six hits and surrendered only one earned run. He left the game with the bases loaded and three runs scored.
Bobby Noland came on to close the door and worked the final 1 2/3 innings. Brennum struck out four and Noland two. Brennum issued five walks and spaced six hits. Noland walked three and gave up one earned run.
Eric Rohowetz slammed a home run to lead off the second and the Knights held onto the lead until Jared Rear doubled to open the fourth, advanced on a deep fly by Brad Zander and scored on a squeeze bunt by Ryan Clerkin.
A four run fourth got the Knights a lead and they added two more in the fifth and seventh.
Brandon Weier, Karl Reynolds and Ryan Reilly all drove in a run with singles in the fourth and Ty Marklein doubled in one more.
Reynolds and Marklein had rbi singles in the fifth. Two errors put the two runs in the seventh on the board.
The Rockies staged a comeback with a four run eighth. Shawn Monson had the only rbi in the frame with a bases loaded walk. Two errors sent the other runs home.
Michael Schlimgen and Jared Rear split the pitching for the Rockies. Schlimgen gave up eight hits and seven earned runs. He walked four.
Rear fanned six in 3 2/3 innings. He walked two, gave up two hits and a pair of unearned runs.
Kyle Thompson was 2x3 for the Rockies. Alex Schauff, Jared Rear, Ryan Clerkin and Lucas Benish had one hit each.
Marklein was 3x4 and Reynolds 2x4 to lead the Knights. Reilly, Rohowetz, Tanner Solberg, Jay Lindner and Weier had one hit.
Marklein and Reynolds both had two rbis.
