Along The Ad Routes

I've got to give some credit for last week's Iowa County Dairy Breakfast to the "head" of the Judd Farms where the breakfast was held. Here's Dan Judd speaking to the crowd during the event with his wife, Heather, and their family beside him. There were some 2250 people served that Saturday morning!

There were a couple of really big things happen in professional sports over the weekend. Actually there were probably more, but these two really stuck out in my mind. First, the race horse "I'll Have Another" was retired after winning the first two legs of the coveted "Triple Crown" due to an injury. I would've watched the Preakness - the final leg of the Triple Crown - but when that horse went down I didn't really see and reason to watch! Second, there was a six-pitcher combined no-hitter in Major League baseball by the Seattle Mariners against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team with the best record in the Majors. It is pretty rare to have more than one pitcher  involved in a no-hitter, let alone six of them. The starting pitcher, Kevin Millwood, had to leave the game with an injury!

Here's another sports thing that hit me over the weekend. I was pulling for the San Antonio Spurs professional basketball team to play in the NBA finals against the Boston Celtics - those are two teams I kind of like. Instead it will be the Miami Heat against the Oklahoma City Thunder - two teams i really don't care for. As a result, I probably won't be watching much of the National Basketball Association finals. I really don't care that much about the NBA anyway!

The 25th Bloomfield Manor "Balloon Fest" came off without a hitch Thursday night. The weather was near perfect and the parade had some great entries. The food stands were busy and it seemed as if everyone had a pretty good time!

I worked at the Dodgeville Lions Club's "first of the summer" Antique Show and Flea Market Sunday having to get up around 4:00 to go and make the coffee for the vendors that morning. Then I stayed pretty much the entire day in the food stand and helped tear down afterwards by loading tables. That made me pretty tired come evening. Oh, I slept well that night!

Saturday was setup day for most of the 55+ vendors for the Lions Club show on Sunday. That took up a good share of the afternoon and evening. I really don't know how Bob Kratochwill does all that he does for that fundraiser where the proceeds go back into the community for such things as park shelters, ball field dugouts, scholarships plus much more!

I really can't get away from "those IOWA drivers"! While I was helping load tables after the Lions Club show Sunday, an Iowa licenses vehicle that was owned by one of the vendors - nearly ran over me while backing into their space to load their vehicle. I was just standing there minding my own business!
