Three runs by Pirates hold up over Cards
But, Pirates hurler Kody Larson was the winner of the miserly tag. He spaced five hits among the Cardinals line-up and shut out Highland 3-0, eliminating them from post season play.
Larson struck out nine, walked one and was only solved by Highland senior Tyler Kleist who was 2x3. But both times Kleist reached base the Pirates kept him from the plate.
Larson was 2x4 for the Pirates as was Kyle Chapman. Quinten Strand finished the game 2x3.
Pierick fanned 12 and walked six while giving up eight hits.
All three Pirates runs were earned. They scored their first run in the second inning then put across a pair of insurance runs in the fourth.
