What progress is the board making on referendum plans?
Since the new board members began their terms in May, the board has reviewed the status of information regarding a scaled-back plan for safety and security issues at DES, with a focus of attention on the short and long term facility needs at DHS. There will be two public information sessions to provide information regarding the community survey results; to share subsequent plans that are developing for a November referendum on the DES/DHS building solutions; and to provide further opportunities for public input. The meetings will begin at 7:00pm on June 18 at DHS and on June 25 at RES.
In preparing for the meetings the board will address the long range maintenance plan, prioritizing among building repairs, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC, flooring, roofing, windows & doors, equipment replacements, and grounds, playgrounds and parking lots. It will use the Focus On Energy audit results as a guide in addressing energy conservation and cost reduction initiatives.
The district has secured the services of Nancy Hendrickson, retiring CESA #3 Administrator, who will facilitate a large group of community volunteers in updating the district's Strategic Plan. While this initiative will begin in September, the district will begin advertising for volunteers during the summer.
This will be a busy summer for the school board as it continues to use its guiding principles to assess the buildings' needs; share information publicly through its various boards meetings; and to elicit community feedback to factor into the ultimate referendum proposal scheduled for November 6.
