Pointers advance to regional final


Boscobel hung around in Tuesday's Division 3 regional semifinal softball game, until the Pointers were able to put some distance between themselves and the Bulldogs in the bottom of the fourth.
Senior Hannah Goninen got the home team on the board in the second inning with a solo home run, and Emily Wood had a two RBI double in the fourth as the second seeded Pointers went on to down the third seeded Bulldogs 5-1.
Mineral Point will now play at top seeded Lancaster Thursday (tonight) with the regional championship on the line. The winner advances to the Boscobel sectional Monday.
Beth Wood went the distance for the Pointers on the mound, striking out five, giving up five hits, and only one walk.
Wunnicke was the Bulldog ace, fanning three, issuing eight hits, no walks, and only three of her runs were earned.
Goninen was the leading hitter going 2x3 at the plate with a homerun and a double. Emily Wood had a double, and Jordyn Dolphin added a double of her own.
Tegram was 2x2 for Boscobel. The lone Bulldog run came in the top of the sixth inning.
The Ponters were to play Lancaster Wednesday in the Division 3 regional final.
