Knights overwhelm Rockies


Hollandale scored first but the Dodgeville Knights answered then tacked on some more runs for good measure.
The Knights beat the Rockies 14-1 in eight innings with a 14 hit attack, some made more difficult because of the wind. The Rockies were hosts for the Home Talent League Western Section game.
Tony DeMuth homered in the second for the Knights to tie the game. Hollandale had scored in the bottom of the first when Kyle Thompson walked, Griffin Rear was hit by a pitch and Ryan Clerkin singled to center for an rbi.
Knights starter Travis Elvert then settled down and worked seven strong innings before giving way to Brad Simmons.
Elvert limited the Rockies to five hits and Simmons gave up one. Elvert fanned eight and walked one while Simmons gave up one hit and struck out the side in the eighth.
Ryan Reilly and Mark Ludwig both went 3x4 for the Knights. Reilly had a two run single in the eighth while Ludwig doubled to open a two run third and drove in a run in the fourth with a single.
Tanner Solberg had a three rbi day for the Knights and went 2x5. Ty Marklein drove in two runs with a ground out and a single.
Eric Rohowetz went 2x4 with a double and drove in a run in the eighth.
Jay Lindner had a hit and walked with the bases loaded in the fourth to send in a run.
Nate Bothfeld drove in a run in the fourth with a fielders choice.
The Rockies had six hits, one each from Kyle Thompson, Ryan Clerkin, Brad Zander, Will Schlimgen, Shawn Monson and Beau Thompson.
Michael Schlimgen worked the first three for Hollandale, striking out one, walking two and giving up six hits. The Knights got to him for seven runs, five earned.
Tom Arneson came in during the fourth and got three outs while giving up a hit and a run.
Lucas Benish finished. He went four innings, struck out two, walked three, gave up seven hits and six runs, two earned.
