We received a note a while back from Pidge and Janey Davies, former "locals", who have been residing in El Dorado Hills, California. They said: "Dear Pat & Mike -You're doing a great job with the Chronicle. We especially like the historical articles. Very interesting reading the old news. Mike, your buddy Mike was a great neighbor and a very good person. With best wishes to all the folks at the Chronicle. Pidge & Janey Davies."
It's always good to hear from people away from here. I know Pidge and Janey keep in touch with a lot of people in the area. They always stop in when they are in the area on a trip!

I ran into the former Heidi Meudt, daughter of Joe and June Meudt Sunday in church. She, her husband and two children are spending five weeks here. Her 20th class reunion was held over the weekend and she has a conference in Ohio during her stay. She was one of Dodgeville's top female athletes when in school as well as a great student. She also had a talk with Gari Walz, retired DHS biology teacher, saying that he taught her a lot when she was in school here. Heidi and this year graduate Rachel Pope are the only two female basketball players to score over 1000 points in their DHS careers!

The 12th Dodgeville Bluesfest is history. The one day event (Saturday, July 21st) takes a lot of work, not only in planning bands, concessions, supplies, etc, but in setting up, tearing down and cleaning up. It all took place in the courthouse parking lot just in back of the Dodgeville Chronicle office. I can't tell you how many people told me that it was great to have it in that area. It's perfect and spacious and being outside just makes it a little bit more special.

I volunteered to work the 9-11 p.m. shift in the food stand, but by 9:15 we had basically run out of food. One of the last hot dogs went to a dog and boy was the master ever happy! I ended up helping sell beer tickets out of the Piggly Wiggly wagon. It was amazing how many tickets were sold in the last hour!

I felt the bands for this year's Bluesfest were some of the best ever. But that may have been because we didn't have a baseball tournament going on at the same time so I got to see and hear them more than usual. I was especially impressed with the fourth band - Davina and the Vagabonds and the headliner - Vance Kelly was truly a blues guy and his sound was pretty darn good!

There were a bunch of vendors out on the street for Maxwell Street Day on Saturday along with the Bluesfest going on. That made for a pretty busy traffic day in the downtown area.

This coming Saturday will be the final day for Terry Carroll Company at Dodgeville True Value. Over my years here, of all of the stores that have left Dodgeville's main street, this is the one that I will miss the most. Terry's great assistance to everyone, his knowledge of "everything" and him being "Mr. Fix-It" is something that can't be replaced even though he will be working at Ederer's Dairy Supply & Hardware in the former Iowa County Humane Society building on Bennett Road. "Good Luck Terry!"
