Working out doesn't have to mean sweating at the gym

A personal trainer would say if you have time to watch an hour of television at night, you have an hour to workout. But sometimes after working all day, making supper, doing laundry, cleaning, writing, and running errands, I just want to sit down for one measly hour; not bust my butt working out.
I may not work out the same as I did in college, but I still workout. I have switched from running, to 15-minute circuit workouts. I love them. I combine a few, do one when I get home, one when I'm done with all my other stuff, and do a different one everyday so it doesn't get boring and so my body doesn't get used to it. It feels better than spending an hour on the treadmill every day and it takes a lot less time.
So if you don't have an hour to work out, I bet you can squeeze in 15 minutes. Plus if you do housework, yard work, get groceries, have to run up and down stairs for laundry it can be a workout. As long as you're moving around your burning calories and you're working out.
Everybody always blames fast food for the obesity rate in America, but I think another reason is because of technology. People spend more time on computers, watching television, and playing video game than they used to. I think it goes beyond technology with screens though.
Think about it. How did people live centuries ago? They had to do a ton of manual labor. They had to harvest their own food, cook their food, wash laundry by hand, do dishes by hand; their days were filled with constant movement. Now many people skip making dinner by hand, and doing dishes by hand. Some still harvest their food, and some probably even wash their laundry by hand. I don't suggest everybody do this, but making your own food and doing the dishes on your once in a while is more movement, which means a healthier body.
Living an active lifestyle doesn't have to mean that you work out every day or partake in every sport possible. Living an active lifestyle can simply mean vacuuming your floors, mopping, doing dishes, making homemade meals, push mowing your lawn, walking the dog, and many other things. If people did a few more labor intensive house related activities during the day and added a short circuit workout a lot of people would feel a whole lot better.
