Dodgers compete well at state baseball tourney


Dodgeville's Senior Babe Ruth team played a trio of strong games in the 2012 Wisconsin Babe Ruth state tournament.
The Dodgers won their first game as they got past Eastern (OshKosh) 5-3. Jasper Meeker turned in an efficient mound performance, spacing 10 hits, striking out two and walking three. He went the entire seven frames.
Singles by Logan Yeager, Meeker and Nick Crowley accounted for a pair of Dodgeville runs in the third.
Eastern scored two in the fourth to tie before Dodgeville got a solo run in the fifth. Yeager was hit by a pitch and was advanced on Meeker's bunt. Brett Binsfeld singled, Austin Larson walked and Brian Simmons singled.
Brycen Pratt singled and later scored on an error in the fifth.
Binsfeld walked, advanced on an error and came home on a sacrifice fly by Crowley.
Eastern scored a run in the bottom of the seventh but a force at third ended the game.
Meeker, Binsfeld, Crowley, Simmons, Pratt and Yeager all had a hit for Dodgeville.
Ashland handed the Dodger squad its first loss in the evening session.
The Dodgers had nine hits with Larson going 3x4 with a double. Meeker, Yeager and Travis Hendrickson all went 2x4.
Larson worked 4 1/3 and Crowley came on to finish.
Ashland scored the winning run in the sixth.
DePere ended Dodgeville's run with an 8-5 win Friday.
Pratt and Simmons took turns on the mound with Simmons hurling three scoreless innings.
Larson was 2x3 with a double and Simmons was 3x4 with a double. Meeker and Yeager both added a hit.
The Dodgers will play Noblesville, IN Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Centennial Park as part of the 16-18 Ohio Valley Regional.
