Cardinals back on winning track

After five road losses in their last six games Highland's boys basketball team had to find a way to right the ship.
They found it Monday night with a stellar defensive effort and turned back Wauzeka-Steuben 59-47 in a non-conference match-up.
Sophomore Andrew Wolfe drew the accolades from first year coach Chad Paquette for leading the Cardinals effort.
"He had been splitting time between junior varsity and varsity," Paquette said. "He got all four varsity quarters tonight and really set the tone. He doesn't score a bunch but he really gets after it defensively. The whole team played great defense and fed off his effort."
Nic Pierick, Bailey Bodenstein and Blake Bodenstein led the scoring for the Cardinals as all three got into double figures. Pierick had a pair of three pointers on the way to 19 points while Blake Bodenstein put in 16 and Bailey Bodenstein 12.
The Cardinals took a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
"It was a great effort," coach Paquette said. "We played very hard, especially on defense, got up by 20 and closed it out."
The Cardinals host Juda Friday in the Six Rivers Crossover.
