Late run sends Dodgers over River Valley

An 8-0 run early in the fourth quarter stood up in a 53-44 win over River Valley by the Dodgeville boys basketball team Friday.
After a game that was tied at halftime and a one point difference after three frames, River Valley had a 36-35 lead with 7:15 left in the tightly contested SWC match-up. But the Dodgers changed that quickly.
Kristian Haag started the run with a free throw and Nick Crowley added a basket and a free throw that made it 39-35. Jake Bechen then sent the lead to 45-36 with four straight free throws.
"We went into a scoring drought and that was the difference," said River Valley coach Jeff Johnson. "We had to go for the steal and foul which ended up to be the difference in the game."
"They made their free throws," Johnson said.
Haag had all five of his points from the line in the fourth quarter and Bechen was four for five from the stripe. Crowley was perfect on all three of his attempts.
Dodgeville coach Ryan Bohnsack felt execution on the part of the Dodgers played a big part in the win.
"We played good defense and it was a solid team win," Bohnsack said. "We executed in the fourth quarter. We put a little run on to start the fourth and took the lead. It was free throws from there on out."
The Dodgers put in 14 of their 18 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Bechen led the Dodgers with 18 points and Crowley added 12. Carter Hoffman paced the Blackhawks with 11 points and Tayt Caraway scored 10.
River Valley is at Richland Center tonight while the Dodgers host Lancaster.
